Welcome to The Kalona Historical Village, a captivating history museum nestled in Kalona, IA. Our museum showcases the rich heritage of Amish, Mennonite, and Kalona history, inviting visitors to dive into the past and uncover the stories that shaped our communities. With 12 historical buildings and 4 museums, we bring history to life through immersive experiences and engaging displays. In addition to our exhibits, we offer private events, private tours, countryside experiences, and a charming gift shop where you can take home a piece of history. For a small town, this museum has one of the best diarama museums I've ever seen. You could almost feel the atmosphere of living in Kalona at the Turn of the 20th century. The village homes and other buildings that were moved to the site wew fun to view. The host in the Mennonite building was very knowledgeable about the Amish and Mennonite history. The host inside the museum entrance also shared some great history and insights about the collection on display.

Blown away by the depth and breadth of this fabulous collection of early America and Iowa history. Stroll through time in a way so expertly displayed and curated. The mainstreet museum has life-size cutouts of those who lived and worked there, with push button narration telling the stories. The gem and quilt collections will draw you in and teach you more than you can imagine. Staff member Heather Joy was truly engaging, and she communicated the history in a most meaningful way. If you're within a hundred miles from Kalona, make a day here. You won't regret it. After seeing the Village, stroll downtown, enjoy ice cream and pastries. (Have a poppy seed kolache! You'll thank me!)

This Museum is packed full of collections! The staff were very informative and friendly. We learned a lot from the volunteer in the air conditioned Mennonite museum. There are Amish Quilts and English quilts displayed in their own rooms with thread spool cabinets and sewing machines as well. There are farm antiques such as tractors and equipment. Come visit Kalona!
